Visiting Lyon

A week and a half ago I got to go to Lyon to visit a dear friend Marie-Ange. She and I went to Burkina-Faso, Africa when we were 17 and 18 years old. What amazing memories!

It has been so nice to visit her and her family everytime or every other time we travel to France. Don’t you love that feeling when you see your friends again after a few years and it seems as though no time has gone by?

Marie-Ange was a great host and showed us around town with her eight year old daughter. We got to walk a lot a see so much of this fascinating city. Did you know they have traboules, where people used to pass big silk spools - according to my friend Pascale. And looms - according to my friend Marie-Ange. Traboules passages with staircases that you access through doors in the city that look just like regular apartment doors. With Mahaut - Marie-Ange’s daughter and Zora we called them magic doors.

The City of Silk as Lyon is also referred to - being on the Silk Road - is fascinating to me as a spinner and a weaver. The Museum of Silk was closed this time and until 2026 and I feel fortunate I was able to visit it almost ten years ago with my friend Shirley of Lambspun of Colorado.

Offering fiber arts tours in France for Americans is something that definitely crosses my mind. Lyon would definitely be high on the list. One day…
