Growing up in France

When I was two, my parents moved from Germany - where they met and where I was born - to France. There, I grew up in the countryside, almost in the center of the country, in a small village named Saint Leger sur Vouzance where there are still more cows than people.

I remember spending a lot of time outside and biking to school, probably two miles, down the hill in the morning and up the big hill after school. We would dress warm in the morning and shlep everything on the way back in the heat of the summer. That brings back torn memories.

We were never bored. There was always something to do at my parent’s fairly large property. That is also where my passion for gardening awakened. Every year or two when I go back I love to pick raspberries, weed, plant new flowers,…

We always had a swimming pool and I am very grateful because as a Taurus I think I am more like a fish in the water actually.

My mom drew, knitted, crocheted or read books. She would go in and out of those phases. Both my German and French grandmothers did also. I learnt to sew from my mom and my French grandmother.

Later my dad told me that my German grandma used to sell her knitted socks, crocheted doilies, etc… at the market around the church on the weekends.
