How do you put a price to art?

Mostly I would like my art to be a gift. No money involved. I can say the same with my teachings.

The reality is that I have bills to pay too. That’s why the option of “Sliding Scale and Pay it Forward” is so important to me. I have to thank Source Point Acupuncture amongst others for confirming that this is how I want my business to operate also.

In our modern world I feel like the emphasis on money is too large. What happened to happiness, love, connection, trade, compassion,…? I don’t believe I am a crazy hippie for feeling this way. It’s also not that new either.

I am thankful to be surrounded by people who feel this way also. Monday I taught a weekly private knitting lesson and my student and I talked about how we don’t relate to the virtual world so much, the crypto currency and money in general. My student got up and was gesturing how we could have our own way, non monetary “thing”. She left, my husband came home and I was excited to tell him about our great conversations and how I have been so excited to get to know my student better. I described her gesturing to him and he said: “energy”, as in this other “thing” than money.

It feels so good to not feel alone - not that I do a lot - but this subject is touchy and most of us have to rely on money because that is the common and known system. I also realize what a privilege I am in when I say this because if I was poor I would just work whatever job I have to and focus on making money to survive.

Since I am in this privileged position - and not the only one - I want to use my voice to offer an alternative and hopefully someday be part of this bigger energy.
