Seasonal Trends

Last week - and in the last couple of years - at the Handmade Market NoCo that I attended I realized that I have been more in tune with seasons, traditions & feelings all together.

See the photo above, I wore a leaf crown that was inspired by my dear friend Marna of Twelve Little Tales.

Part of it comes from my daughter’s Waldorf school Mountain Sage and the people that I have befriended there over the years.

Seasonal and traditional ceremonies, festivals and celebrations of the time - Pagan Holidays - are a big part of the Waldorf philosophy.

When I grew up my parents were questioning trends and traditions, they rebelled against some of them. For example, it is not because a lot of people do something that we have to do it also. They liked to be original I suppose. I think in my younger mind I did not make a difference between a lot of different traditions and I am realizing that part of the rebellion was the commercial aspect of celebrations and traditions.

Today in my family we still celebrate common holidays but we focus on the local and handmade aspect of it and not the commercial, buy the latest plastic and unnecessary item made in China trend.

It is complicated but in general I have been trying to be more in tune with the seasonal celebrations such as Fall and Harvest time - since I have had a garden for a few years now this makes a lot of practical sense to me - or the summer solstice, all kinds of yearly traditional celebrations that are in tune with nature and the Earth basically.
